Wintermarsh

The Series: Throughout the landscape of the Connecticut River Valley, as the River draws close to the Long Island Sound, you will find an abundance of small ponds and creeks, little streams and tributaries that open to expanses of beautiful marshland. Some are small while others are great and wide, but all are host and home to an array of wildlife and are always a source of joy and inspiration. I love to explore these marshlands in winter, especially right after a snowfall. Snow piles atop the reeds, creating sculpted shapes along the banks and little boats of snow that look like they are all moored in a snug little harbor. The sky and reflections in the water turn silver and still. All life and bustle and birdsong in the summer, the marsh is transformed into quiet introspection.
